Grant Mitchell’s (Ross Kemp) infamous temper makes a return in EastEnders next week when he unleashes hell on his family and friends. The iconic Walford hard man staged a comeback to the BBC soap earlier this month to support brother Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), who is in the midst of a mental health crisis.

Both characters have been central to the 40th anniversary episodes airing this week as suicidal Phil has reached a tragic breaking point. While there’s more to come from the milestone episodes as an explosion rips through the Queen Vic during Honey and Billy Mitchell’s (Emma Barton and Perry Fenwick) wedding reception, Grant is under a huge amount of pressure and scrutiny from his family in the aftermath.

Next week begins with tension mounting between Grant and old friend Nigel Bates (Paul Bradley), who has been supporting Phil over the last few months, all while hiding a recent early-onset dementia diagnosis.
Other members of the Mitchell family arrive and have plenty of questions for irritated Grant, who is finding it hard to keep his temper in the face of intense criticism over his actions. They later come together for breakfast at the café, but it’s not long before tensions rise again between Grant and the rest of the clan.
A furious Grant explodes, delivering some harsh home truths around the table before storming out. However, he later gets some words of wisdom in the café from an unlikely source. Meanwhile, having spied their confrontation, Yolande Trueman (Angela Wynter) offers Nigel some comfort, being the only one who knows about his dementia diagnosis – but Grant overhears their exchange and Nigel is forced to share his news.
Grant struggles with this latest bombshell, but a row ensues and he later decides it’s time to pack his bags and leave town. Realising his old friend needs him, Grant offers him the chance to move to Portugal with him. Will Nigel agree? And will Grant mend bridges with the rest of the family before riding off into the sunset?.
