Emmerdale favourites Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) and Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) are engaged, with a wedding ahead following a near-tragedy that almost tore them apart. Liam had been keen to seal his future with Chas, getting down on one knee in the now sunken limo and popping the question.

A dire fate intervened, with the car then crashing, sending several residents to their deaths. Liam himself was on the edge of losing his life after sustaining a bleed on the brain. With Chas desperate for updates, she feared she was going to lose him as his fate remained in the balance following the operation.

Thankfully he pulled through and Chas was a picture of relief. Surrounded by loss, it dawned on her how short life is and she explained to her husband-to-be that she had planned to say no as she didn’t think she was ready. But after how he coaxed her over the ice with supportive words, effectively saving her life, she realised she has never felt so safe with someone.
She then proposed to him and, after jokingly telling her that he will need to think about it, the loved up pair embraced, with wedding bells set to ring. It’s the one bit of good news in an otherwise devastating week. On Liam’s dedication to Chas, actor Jonny told us: ‘He adores her and wants to do something special to convey to her the magnitude of his love.
