Aaron Ramsey was booed by Stoke City fans on his latest trip to The Bet365 Stadium - but he had the last laugh as Cardiff City dumped the Potters out of the FA Cup. The Wales midfielder, 34, has been jeered by Stoke fans ever since suffering a broken leg during a match played in the Potteries during his Arsenal days following a tackle by Ryan Shawcross. Ramsey was sidelined for eight months as a result of that career-threatening injury back in 2010. He was eventually able to get back playing for Arsenal and has since moved on to join Cardiff, though his time in the Welsh capital has been blighted by injuries.

He made his first appearance since suffering a hamstring injury last September in Saturday's topsy-turvy cup tie, which Cardiff won on penalties after initially blowing a two goal lead. The match finished 3-3 after extra-time. And the Bluebirds' triumph in the shootout meant that Ramsey was able to bask in the celebrations after being heckled all afternoon by the home faithful. While Ramsey didn't appear to be too fussed with the actions of the home crowd, Cardiff manager Omer Riza condemned it in his post-match interview, where he branded the boos as "disappointing".

He told BBC Radio Wales: "I was really surprised by that and disappointed for Aaron because it's not nice. But he's got a character big enough to deal with it. "He's got a lot of people around him who care for him, a lot of people who love him. So a bit of booing at Stoke will only push him to be better.". Stoke fans were previously slammed for singing “Aaron Ramsey, he walks with a limp,” back in 2016. Club chairman John Coats told The Guardian at the time: “You’re telling me something that I’m completely unaware of. I’ve no idea that chant had taken place, but we wouldn’t approve of it at all.

“I don’t think it’s a minority of fans; I know it’s a minority. People chant all sorts of awful things at all sorts of grounds, which I dislike. But do I approve of that sort of chanting? Of course I don’t.”. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
