A hero who waded into freezing flood water to save a woman trapped in her car has told The Mirror he “would do it again.”. Cimi Kazazi, 50, leapt into action when he saw the situation unfolding outside his pub in Leicester. The fearless dad-of-two said: “I didn’t think. Any human being who feels for others would have done the same, I just acted on instinct. Someone was in trouble and I knew I just had to help. But you don’t know until something like this happens and I just jumped in.”.

Cimi explained he had already had a dip into the ice cold floodwaters before his daring rescue because he had to turn off the alarm at his pub, The Italian Greyhound restaurant, when a neighbour raised the alarm. He told The Mirror: "The water burned like pain in my head when it first hit me, so going in again was not so bad. I could not believe what I was seeing at first but realised I had to move quickly to get straight back in. The lady was frightened and shaking when I got to her, she could not open the door and was trapped inside by the floodwater. I got her out and got her to safety where we dried her off and got her warm again.

“She was shaking but we gave her first aid and got her in towels.” The woman, who did not want to be named, said: “The people here have been so supportive. Without them I would have been in hospital.”. The dramatic moment of the rescue was caught on camera. The video shows Cimi wading through waist-high water in the village of Great Glen, Leicestershire, before carrying the woman to safety.
