Gabby Petito's killer Brian Laundrie used her credit cards to make it seem she was still alive, a new Netflix documentary has revealed. Petito, 22, was strangled to death on August 27, 2021, by her fiancé Laundrie, 23, in Wyoming during their road trip across the country. He then drove back to his parents' home in North Port, Florida, on September 1 in her 2012 white Ford Transit van. Laundrie vanished when police began investigating his other half's disappearance, with cops eventually finding her remains on September 19.

Police then found Laundrie's remains on October 20. He had killed himself with a gunshot to the head. Netflix's documentary American Murder: Gabby Petito reveals how Laundrie fraudulently used Petito's debit card in a desperate attempt to cover his tracks. Speaking in the series, FBI special agent Loretta Bush, said: 'He stops at multiple gas stations. 'Through credit card records, we know that he uses Gabby's debit card to pay for gas.

Gabby Petito's killer Brian Laundrie used her credit cards to make it seem she was still alive. Laundrie strangled his fiancé during their cross-country road trip before later killing himself. 'Also, on the trip there is a Zelle transaction from Gabby to Brian that says "Goodbye Brian, I'll never ask you for anything again" and transfers $700 from Gabby's account to Brian's account. 'We know that Gabby was deceased, and Brian was using multiple devices to send this to himself.

'What this did was send him from going to being a missing person to making him a federal fugitive.'. Laundrie further tried to cover his tracks by sending text messages from his phone to Petito's phone and using her phone in return to respond. 'As Brian is hiking, text messages are being sent to Gabby's phone which was back at the Spread Creek area,' FBI special agent Kyle, whose surname has been kept private, said.

'Text messages to Gabby's phone are not read until Brian gets back to the Spread Creek area, where Gabby's phone was left.'. 'The activity between the two phones was almost instantaneous. 'Brian was holding both phones and talking directly to himself. It was apparent that he was trying to create an alibi.'. Laundrie further tried to cover his tracks by sending text messages from his phone to Petito's phone and using her phone in return to respond.

Petito was killed by her fiancé Laundrie in Wyoming while they were on a road trip in the summer of 2021. Investigators determined she died by manual strangulation and had been dead for three to four weeks, and her death was ruled a homicide. Laundrie later died by suicide from a gunshot wound to the head in October 2021. His remains were found in Florida's Carlton Reserve. Before her murder, Petito and her fiancé Laundrie were on a four-month road trip across the United States documenting their van life journey on social media.

Netflix’s three-part documentary takes viewers on a journey through their final days together. The series unveils the tragic reality behind their Insta-perfect life and painful moments where their story might have taken a different turn. Also under the spotlight in the documentary is Laundrie's mother, Roberta Laundrie, who wrote her son a chilling 'burn after reading' letter in which she said she would help him bury a body because she loved him so much.
