SIX key items have been taken from Gene Hackman's mansion as cops investigate the mysterious deaths of the actor and his wife. Cops collected multiple medications, documents, and phones from the home where Hackman, 95, and his wife Betsy Arakawa, 63, were found dead on Wednesday afternoon.

Hackman and Arakawa's bodies were discovered alongside one of their pet dogs when a panicked neighborhood caretaker called 911 after finding the couple unmoving in their Santa Fe home. Despite finding no obvious signs of foul play, cops quickly labeled the deaths "suspicious" as they discovered the door ajar and two dogs still alive after one of the three German Shepherds died.

Plus, fire department officials said there was no gas leak in the house. "I believe the front door was closed but unlocked," Santa Fe County Sheriff Adam Mendoza said on the Today Show. "There was one door that was ajar, that was toward the rear of the residence that two of the dogs that survived were coming in and out of the residence.

"So there's a little bit of conflicting stories based on emergency response.". It comes as... Mendoza said he wasn't sure if the door was opened by cops or not. "So that's another question and something that we need answered," he added. Court records revealed cops took two green-colored cell phones, health-related records, and a 2025 monthly calendar planner from the house, according to ABC affiliate KOAT-TV.

They also got thyroid medication, Diltiazem medication, and Tylenol from the house to investigate the couple's deaths. Diltiazem is used to treat high blood pressure and chest pain. An open bottle of pills was scattered on the bathroom counter near Arakawa's body, cops said in a search warrant.

When Today's Savannah Guthrie asked Mendoza if the pills found near Arakawa could be related to the deaths during Thursday's interview, the sheriff said he's not ruling anything out. "That’s obviously very important evidence at the scene," he said. "So we’re looking at that specifically and other medications that were possibly in the residence. So that is something of concern.".

Gene Hackman's family has spoken out on the actor's death after he was found dead with his wife, Betsy Arakawa, in their Santa Fe home. "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy," Hackman's children, Christopher, Elizabeth, and Leslie Hackman said in a statement.

"He was loved and admired by millions around the world for his brilliant acting career, but to us he was always just Dad and Grandpa. "We will miss him sorely and are devastated by the loss.". Cops found Arakawa's body lying in the bathroom upon entering the house on Wednesday afternoon.

It appeared she had been there for weeks as her hands and feet had signs of mummification, the search warrant said. The dog was found dead in the bathroom closet. Cops then found Hackman lying in a mudroom with his cane and sunglasses near his body. A search warrant revealed that cops noted the legendary actor looked like he fell to the ground suddenly.

Hackman and Arakawa's causes of death have not been revealed. The Oscar winner and his wife, a classical pianist, lived their final years in the massive mansion they built in Santa Fe. The couple, who were married in 1991, never had any kids. The actor had three children from his first marriage, who released a statement in the wake of his death.

Hackman was a two-time Oscar winner and five-time nominee after an impressive career spanning four decades. He was known for his roles in movies like The French Connection, Unforgiven, and Superman: The Movie. Officials are expected to reveal more information about the deaths at an afternoon press conference on Friday.
