During Wednesday's broadcast of Good Morning Britain, host Charlotte Hawkins suddenly cut into the programme to deliver urgent updates. She commented: "Marverine is here now with the rest of the day's news, including news a few moments ago of an inflation increase.".

She transitioned to Marverine Cole who confirmed the financial bombshell saying; "Absolutely, Charlotte, thank you very much. Yes, in the last few moments this breaking news. Official figures have been released that show inflation rose to three per cent.".

She elaborated on the severity of the economic situation, adding: "That's a rise of half a per cent, much more than economists had expected. That's bad news for Chancellor Rachel Reeves, who promised to keep inflation as low as possible to help working people.".

The show has been no stranger to breaking news, evident from Tuesday's programming when Charlotte began with the revelation of imminent diplomatic discussions over Ukraine, reports the Manchester Evening News. She told viewers: "We start with breaking news this morning. Within the next few minutes, peace talks are set to begin in Saudi Arabia that could determine the fate of Ukraine and the future of Europe.

"Representatives from the United States and Russia will come face to face to negotiate a ceasefire deal.". In an additional update, former US President Donald Trump weighed in on the crisis, provocatively suggesting that Ukraine might be at fault for provoking Russia's aggressive action.

Dishing on the latest from across the pond, Marverine Cole offered some insight about Donald Trump's views on Ukraine, saying: "He (Donald Trump) has said that Ukraine, in his words, should never have started it. He also said they should have struck a peace deal years ago.".

She then passed the baton to ITV's Richard Gaisford, who highlighted how Ukrainians had long feared Trump's alignment with Putin. He said: "He's certainly taking the Russian position on board and appears to be rewriting history. America is the single biggest donor to Ukraine, ready, it seems, to cut its ties.".

He concluded with a stark statement for Europe's politicians: "That means European leaders now have to put up or shut up.". Good Morning Britain continues weekdays on ITV from 6am. Get the biggest TV headlines, recaps and insider knowledge straight to your inbox.
