Harry Kane is keeping tight-lipped on reports that he could be set for a shock return to the Premier League next year due to a release clause in his contract. The England captain, 31, joined Bayern Munich from Tottenham 18 months ago and has been in fine form for the German giants. However, it was claimed earlier this week that the striker's contract contains a clause which means he can bought for just £54million once it activates in January 2026. It's also said that a slightly higher buy-out option of £67m was active just last month.

That would potentially open the door for Kane to return to England - but he refused to comment when he was quizzed about said clause on Friday. Speaking after notching two goals - both from the penalty spot - in Bayern's 3-0 win over Werder Bremen, Kane was asked the question and responded coyly: “What I can say is that I’m very happy at FC Bayern. No comment on the clause.”. Plenty of English clubs have already been tipped to make a move for Kane in the wake of his release clause being made public, including his former club, Tottenham, and Manchester United, who were heavily linked with him before his Bundesliga switch.

One of the more intriguing links that has materialised this week is Arsenal, who are expected to enter the market for a new No.9 this summer. Join the debate! Do you think Kane will come back to the Premier League? Let us know here. But despite the fierce rivalry that exists between Spurs and Arsenal, former Gunners midfielder Paul Merson says an audacious swoop for Kane is a no-brainer. He said defiantly on Sky Sports: “Arsenal will buy him,” before doubling down when he was asked if he was being serious.

“Why not? £64m, why not? Sol Campbell did [make the move]. People will go, ‘Oh he’s this age and that age’, but Arsenal need now. "If Arsenal haven’t won the League, you’ve got to take a chance. You’ve got to take a chance, buy someone that’s proven. I wouldn’t be surprised, and when you’re Harry Kane and you’ve been told you can go for £64m, there’s only a couple of teams who could buy him.

“Maybe Tottenham will buy him back but he’ll have to win something at Bayern Munich to go back to Tottenham. If you’ve not won anything at Bayern Munich, you’re not going back to Tottenham to win nothing.”. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
