THROUGHOUT his years in showbiz, we have seen a lot from Kanye West. From storming up on stage to ruin Taylor’s moment, to his bizarre run for president, we have always been intrigued by the rapper. Is he talented? Definitely. A creative genius? Possibly. Previously entertaining? No Question. But what we have seen from Kanye over the past few days shows none of those things. If anything, it apparently shows how he is now a threat to society.

I am Jewish, and proudly so. The interesting thing was when I first set eyes on Kanye’s meltdown on X/Twitter, I had somewhat of a nonchalant attitude about the whole saga. When reading his bizarre outbursts in all capital letters, I simply discarded it. Of course, I was completely offended by the anti-Semitic material. But I also knew that these were the ravings of a someone clearly struggling with their mental health.

I knew that these tweets showed Kanye for who he really was but they would also be a complete record of his character that would be available to view online for the rest of time. Giving publicity to the tweets would only serve Kanye, as it would amplify the blatant anti-Semitism further in an age where the levels of abuse towards Jews in society are the highest they have been since the Holocaust. Simply put, the man deserved no oxygen to keep his fire of hate alight. Rather, I felt it best to ignore and let it dim – his actions spoke volumes and people would see through it.

However, his next move has now made that mindset impossible and he’s proven just how much of a danger he really is. When you think of the Super Bowl this year, one might think of Eagles fans booing Taylor Swift or Kendrick Lamar’s brutal takedown of Drake. What I didn’t expect was a TV advert which showed Kanye saying the following words: "I spent all the money for the commercial on these new teeth, so once again I had to shoot it on the iPhone... go to Yeezy.com”.

Before the controversy, Ye was known for his Yeezy shoe range with Adidas. But now the website only sells one singular product. A plain white T-shirt with a simple black Nazi swastika was the single piece of apparel advertised to not just the biggest audience in America, but to the world. Kanye is not just wearing this dangerous anti-Semitism proudly on his sleeve, he’s taken the abuse of Jews one step further and is making money off of it.

At this moment in time, people around the world feel emboldened to attack Jews because of the conflict in the Middle East. But this has nothing to do with that war. There is no reference of the Israeli Flag and no pro-Palestinian paraphernalia is present. This is simply Kanye endorsing a symbol of Jewish hatred and attempting to celebrate the attempted elimination of the Jewish race. I am a free speech advocate, always have been and always will be.
While I proudly support freedom of expression, there are obvious limits in the form of hate speech. Kanye is not just espousing it for the delights of his followers, he is attempting to actively promote it in a way which we have not seen since the 30s and 40s. This would never happen to any other religion or race; why is it okay for it to happen to Jewish people?. My nonchalant attitude towards Kanye has been obliterated faster than Kim rushing to divorce lawyers.
But the anti-Semitic abuse that the rapper is attempting to put out into the world cannot and should never, ever be normalised. So I hope for all of our sake, Kanye takes time away from entertainment and gets the help that he seemingly needs desperately. He is not just a threat to the worldwide Jewish community, he is a threat to wider society as a whole and needs to be kept away. If not in prison, then definitely an institution of some sort.
