It's no secret that the festive season now comes with all sorts of added pressures. From elf on the shelf, to viral trends to the endless shopping - there's all sorts of evolving traditions to worry about as a parent. Not to mention, Christmas Eve boxes have also become popular in recent years.

The boxes appear under the tree the day before Christmas and are often filled with gifts like pyjamas, chocolates or maybe a cuddly toy. But, as lovely as they are, they can also be super expensive for some families. This is a part of the reason why one woman refuses to do them. The mum, known as thebudgetingmum on TikTok, admitted she's never done them for her own children as she doesn't see the point in them having extra gifts a day early.

Instead, she's come up with her own genius idea that makes the kids happy as well as saving on her bank balance. In fact, some parents have praised the clever hack. In a video, she explained: "I don't do Christmas Eve boxes, I do this instead. I've never understood the trend to give the kids a load of stuff on Christmas Eve.

"Why would you give them a box of Christmas things a day before the big day? So, I've always done a December box for mine, and I fill it with loads of activities we can do together during December. "I also include their advent calendar in here too, and it really gives us a nice box of activities to actually spend time together over the festive period. Sometimes, you can get so caught up in thinking you need to be out of the house, seeing Santa here, there and everywhere but - for me - Christmas is about being home, doing crafts together, making Christmas cards and baking gingerbread.".
