Supermarkets are bursting at the seams with busy shoppers racing around to get their food in preparation for Christmas Day. But amid the chaos, and what feels like unlimited choices, it can be hard to drill down quality over cost. One TikTok user, Beccaeatseverything, tried six variations of yule log - and one came out on top.

She taste-tested a variation of premium and cheaper varieties from Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's and Waitrose. Despite Waitrose always being renowned for quality and a higher price point, Becca did not place it at the top. But it didn't come bottom of the pile.

She gave Asda's a three out of 10, claiming she could "not get on with the sponge" and found the creme filling inside "too sickly sweet." In fifth place was Sainsbury's Taste the Difference range yule log - with praise given for the outer chocolate layer, with Becca labelling it "the best out of all of them".

She even rated the butter-cream, but it was the outer coating of "artificial icing" that put her off. She gave it a 4.5 out of 10. In fourth place was another Sainsbury's version with a cheaper £3 price-tag. "This is probably the driest one I've tried so far," she added. "There is a thin shell of chocolate," she said as she held a slither up to the camera. She said there was minimal amounts of butter-cream and the sponge was "coming across so dry." She ranked it five out of 10.

Next, was Waitrose's £7 version which came in at third place - the most expensive of them all. "Some nice flavours in there," she said. "The chocolate has more of a creamy tone which some of the others are missing. The sponge, though, really lets it down. It's not exactly dry but it's very dense - I was expecting it to be a little fluffier than this.".
