Pyjamas are, quite frankly, my most favourite item of clothing, though I’m torn to pick one favourite set I own because I have a lot. In my style book, you can never have too many PJs in your nightwear drawer. Some may opt for matching sets, others mix and match styles, or an oversize t-shirt to wear as a nightie, but whatever your preference there is no denying there is plenty of choice out there to cosy up in.
Pyjamas do not just have to be for bed, as you can wear them as loungewear throughout the day too, though some designs are stylish enough to wear out the house too – I’m looking at you Daily Sleeper and Damson Madder. While some may opt for long sleeve and long leg trouser designs, others may prefer the freedom of a short sleeve or sleeveless pyjama top and shorts. Some like a thermal design, others lightweight linen, or creations made from temperature regulating fabrics to wear all year long.
For as long as I can remember I have always loved pyjamas, and the minute I would get home from school, and even work now I’m older, the first thing I do is slip into fresh pyjamas – there is simply no better feeling. I own a selection of every style to see me through the week, as well as all the seasons. Call me crazy, but I have to wear pyjamas in the summer months, as well as winter, even if it is a cami top and short set. And there are certain retailers I go back to time and time again because they nail their bedwear.
It’s safe to say I have gone through a plethora of pyjamas during my 32 years on this planet. While there is a multitude of retailers to shop all styles of nightwear to suit your preference and budget, I have whittled down my favourite retailers to shop cosy, comfortable and practical nightwear, as well as my favourite sets from each to inspire your nightwear shopping spree. I regularly turn to M&S for a pair of trusted and comfortable pyjamas, whether it’s from Rosie Huntington Whiteley’s collection or festive pyjamas in the main range. What I love about M&S PJs is there is often scope to mix and match your nightwear, even personalise it, and shop matching sets for the entire family too.Made from soft and breathable cotton-blend fabric, this affordable mix and match set is ideal for bed. The shirt top comes with a button fastening, while the shorts are long enough to provide necessary coverage without riding up during your slumber. Alternatively pair the shorts with a plain pink tank top, or switch the shorts for the long length matching lobster print trousers. Buy all four items and you have created four nightwear styles to rotate throughout the week, month, and year taking you from winter through to the summer months.
I live in H&M’s Viscose-blend Pyjamas, which I owen in numerous colourways, because they provide the necessary warmth and coverage for the colder months, yet I don’t overheat in them either. The long sleeve shirt offers a relaxed fit that is not too structured.Similarly, the wide leg bottoms skim the legs for optimum comfort. The trousers feature an elasticated waist, which stay put throughout the night, but do not dig in. The soft fabric is gentle on my sensitive skin and breathable too. I am a restless sleeper and roll around, but the buttons on the shirt do not unfasten during my slumber, which is a big green flag. Plus, they look super stylish and more premium than the sub £30 price tag – I’d even liken this set to SKIMS. Available in sizes extra small to XXXXL.
For luxurious nightwear head to The White Company. The Silk Stripe Piped Pyjama Set has been crafted from pure Bluesign silk, which is buttery soft and lightweight on the skin. The White Company’s attention to detail is key here, as the mother of pearl buttons and contrast piping create a polished finish and elegant nightwear set. Pair with The White Company’s plush slippers and dressing gown, and you will never want to leave your bedroom.
SKIMS has a variety of loungewear and nightwear sets, but for those seeking summer nightwear the Logo Pointelle Cropped Cami Set will be for you. Made from a cotton and elastane blend, this set is lightweight, comfortable and breathable. This set features a cropped, figure-hugging cami top with adjustable straps and a ruffled hem, as well as matching hotpant shorts with a delicate cotton gusset. Be warned, this set is selling out fast.
Supermarkets get overlooked when it comes to fashion, but Sainsbury’s Tu section needs to be on your radar for comfortable, practical and playful nightwear. Crafted from 100% cotton, this playful printed set is perfect for your next girly sleepover. The set includes a long-sleeved top and matching traditional wide leg trousers, both emblazoned with a fun pancake print. The natural cotton fabric ensures breathability and softness. Plus it is available in a range of sizes, though stock is selling out fast.
Piglet in Bed has plenty of premium pyjama sets and separates to shop for those wanting to invest in their nightwear. The Linen Gingham Pyjama Set includes a traditional button-up shirt top and matching shorts, which are sold separately, though you can also shop matching full length pyjama trousers for those who want their legs to stay warm at nigh toot. All separates in the range have been crafted from 100% linen, which is ideal for those who suffer from night sweats or simply overheat and want breathable nightwear to sleep in.
