Getting a tattoo is a big commitment – and researching your tattoo artist is vital. If you've already got tattoos, you'll know how important it is to look up the artist you want to visit before you book an appointment with them. Tattoo artists specialise in different styles, so you need to make sure that the art you want done suits the experience of the person you're planning to visit.
What's more, you also need to ensure the artist is comfortable doing the work you'd like. As one tattoo artist recently pointed out in a viral video, not all artists are happy putting ink on any part of the body, and they all have their limitations – which helps keep both you and them safe.
In a video on TikTok, a professional tattoo artist named Tamsin highlighted the areas that she will never agree to tattoo – and revealed the one rule she has that strangers have to follow but friends don't. Tamsin specialises in fine-line tattoos, and as such, she doesn't feel comfortable tattooing places that don't suit her tattooing style, such as the side of the hand or the inside of the finger. She said fine-line tattoos on these areas usually need "endless touch-ups" to keep the design looking pristine, so she would instead recommend finding an artist that "hand pokes their work" as it will "heal so much better".
The artist next said she isn't interested in learning how to correctly tattoo palms or the soles of feet, so she'll turn people away who want ink in those areas. She explained: "There are multiple artists out there who have dedicated their career to learning how to tattoo those places in such a way that they stay in and heal well. My artwork does not lean toward those placements whatsoever, so I'm not interested in doing them.".
