Fans of the Masked Singer have received a message from a celebrity who's rumoured to be on the show. It comes after the ITV show returned for its sixth series earlier this month, introducing viewers to a host of new masked characters - with most of their identities yet to be confirmed. There's been much speculation over who could be behind each costume and, as has been the case in previous series, actor Sheridan Smith, 43, has been brought up by some fans.

Sheridan - who recently appeared in Gavin & Stacey's latest Christmas special - has been suggested as the celebrity behind the character Tattoo. The BAFTA winner addressed the speculation in a post on her Instagram Story on Sunday night. Sheridan - who has released two albums in her career to date - told her followers that she is "not nor ever will be" a contestant on the Masked Singer. The theatre star added that she has been amused by the speculation from fans though.

Alongside a selfie, she wrote in the recent post: "Love you all but just to save you trouble, I am not nor ever will be on the Masked Singer, as much as I enjoy to watch it. I wasn't Sausage, Bush, Firework or Tattoo but I love your commitment and it makes me howl laughing. You lot are brilliant.".

Tattoo and Bush are among the characters on the new series of the Masked Singer, but neither have been unmasked yet. The other two characters referenced by Sheridan in her post on the weekend appeared in previous series. Sausage was unmasked as singer-songwriter Joss Stone in the second series, which she won back in 2021. Whilst Firework was later revealed to be actor Jaime Winstone in the show's third series, which aired the following year.
