Sanjeev Bhaskar has opened up about working with actor Georgia Mackenzie on crime drama Unforgotten, calling the experience "a joy". The sixth season kicked off yesterday (February 9), with a grisly case for the detectives to tackle. In true Unforgotten style, the first episode saw the team tackling a case where human bones have been found in a marsh, with duo DCI Jess James (Sinead Keenan) and DI Sunny Khan (Sanjeev Bhaskar) piecing together the grisly details of the historic crime.

The first episode was complex, opening up lots of different storylines, which the show's producers have hinted will come together later in the season. We also see Sunny out having fun with work colleague, pathologist Leanne Balcombe, played by Georgia Mackenzie. Sanjeev spoke about what it was like working with the actor, sharing: "Well, there’s a number of things. First of all, doing scenes with Georgia is always a joy.

“It’s always been a joy. In earlier series, when she came in, she was giving us the information about the body, and so there was a lot of info that she had to convey to us, which was all very technical, but it was always such a laugh when she came in. She’s just one of those joyous people that brings that joy with her. Sanjeev hinted that his character may form a deeper relationship with Leanne throughout the series: "But also, within the storyline, Leanne and Sunny were the last two people who ever saw Cassie alive, and that connects them.

"So in this series, we see them build on something, build on a connection that is not based on Cassie –it’s based on them as people and where they go with it. "So, in that sense, there is something that blossoms there. But being Chris [Lang, the show's writer], there are also very heady cliffs that suddenly appear as well. It’s not plain sailing.”. Catch Unforgotten Sunday nights at 9pm on ITV One, or stream on ITVX.
