A coach who helps women discover sexual pleasure has revealed how countless clients tell her they never ever have sex sober. Katy Bampton from South Wales, now living on the Thai Island of Koh Samui, runs a 'School of Sensuality' to help women 'reconnect with their bodies', and says the use of stimulants in sex is rifer than ever – across every age group and demographic.

'I've worked with busy mums, wives who hide from their husbands that they need booze before sex, extremely successful corporate women who are so in control of their lives in every other respect, but when it comes to their love lives, the opposite is true,' she said.

'Sometimes it takes days of work to open up how they've actually never, not once, had sober sex, and when I ask them why, they have no answer. 'They say: "Isn't that the same for everyone?".'. Katy herself is currently celibate and is saving herself for the man who will be the father of her children.

However, in the past her love life looked very different and she admits she took part in multiple threesomes, and had around 100 lovers before 'seeing the light'. In her 20s, she was a nursery worker, who described her sexual tastes as 'vanilla', but when a middle class couple she was babysitting for invited her to a swingers' party, it changed the course of her life.

Katy Bampton, now living on the Thai Island of Koh Samui, admits she took part in multiple threesomes, and had around 100 lovers before 'seeing the light'. The experience marked the beginning of a five-year journey that heightened Katy's instincts for self-love.

She was dragged into the dark world of making porn films and organising massive drug-fuelled sex parties as well as making racy content for OnlyFans. Katy, 32, said: 'People hear my story about working in the porn industry in my 20s and imagine those experiences taught me everything about sex, but ironically those years taught me exactly how to have bad sex.'.

'I had a horrible sexual experience when I was 18 which I tried to pretend never happened, and I think I never believed I could enjoy sex sober – what I was doing was numbing myself, giving myself false confidence which eventually made me realise there was nothing genuine about my sex life at all.'.

Now she knows real intimacy can 'never happen' with stimulants and is determined to spread the word. 'There's a societal pressure on women in particular to drink before a date or sex to give them confidence, and soon that one drink turns into three, five, 10,' she explained.

'Next thing you know it, the next morning you can hardly remember what happened, you're worried you didn't 'perform' well enough for your partner, it's a downward spiral of neuroses and paranoia. 'But if you don't break that cycle, it inevitably gets worse and worse until you reach breaking point and realise you've wasted most of your adult life never really enjoying sex.'.

Just over two years ago, Katy says she had an 'epiphany' and realised so much of her life 'wasn't genuine'. By the time she and Rob moved to the island of Koh Samui in Thailand in 2023, Katy decided 'I didn't want that life anymore'. Katy, pictured with her ex-husband, said that true intimacy can never be possible if you're taking stimulants.

Going on a jungle retreat for a year in Thailand, she was completely celibate for the entire duration, which she says gave her a clarity she had always tried to suppress. 'It's really challenging having sex sober because you feel exposed, you've lost your protective layer, but that's a false narrative,' she said.

'With stimulants like alcohol or drugs, there's too much chatter in your mind, all that noise which stops you connecting with your body. 'You're not present, you're not focusing on the feelings inside your vagina, you don't experience a proper orgasm. 'Once you let go of that comfort blanket you actually start to experience way, way better sex than you ever thought possible.

'There's a new sober movement in lots of western societies now which is amazing – sex and relationships are so intertwined, and you lose the ability to communicate properly, to really 'feel' when even if you've just had one drink. Sex is about communication with yourself and your partner.'.

'The women I've worked with at my School of Sensuality do something called a 'sexploration' where they openly talk about what they want from sex, they talk about good and bad past experiences and focus on how to get better. 'I know how I had my head in the sand for over a decade, fooling myself that drunk or drugged-up sex was great, but now I know the truth.
