Jamie Carragher has provided a surprising reaction to Liverpool's shock FA Cup exit. The Premier League leaders were knocked out of the FA Cup by Plymouth, who are bottom of the Championship. Ryan Hardie scored the only goal of the game for Plymouth with a penalty in the 53rd minute. The defeat ended any chance of Liverpool winning the quadruple, although it could still prove to be a hugely successful first season in charge for Arne Slot.

Liverpool remain top of the Premier League and are six points clear of their closest challengers Arsenal, while they also have a game in hand. Slot's side are through to the final of the Carabao Cup, where they will face Newcastle next month, and they are still active in the Champions League having finished top of the league phase. Liverpool legend Carragher believes that the Reds' chances of winning the title have now increased following their FA Cup elimination. After Liverpool were knocked out, a fan wrote on X: 'Probability to win the league has gone up'. Carragher expressed his agreement as he wrote: '100'. Liverpool made nine changes to their starting lineup for the game against Plymouth, with many youngsters and squad players receiving opportunities to impress.

However, had they made it through then Slot would probably have had to call upon some of his first-choice stars in later rounds. Although Liverpool will be frustrated to have been knocked out of the FA Cup, they will now have fewer games, which could help their quest to win the league title. Liverpool return to league action on Wednesday night when they face Everton away in the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

Following that they will host Wolves next Sunday, which will be followed by trips to take on Aston Villa and Manchester City. As well as the result, there was further frustration for Liverpool against Plymouth as Joe Gomez suffered an injury. Gomez had only just returned to action following an injury in December. When asked about Gomez, Slot said: 'I am not too sure. I am not too sure if it was the same leg, but I haven't had time to ask him.
