Inga Thompson, a former American Olympic cyclist, has revealed she voted for Donald Trump despite being a lifelong Democrat because of the new president's stance on protecting women's sports. The 45th and 47th President of the United States signed approximately 200 executive orders Monday night as his 'new golden age of America' begins. Among them is an effort to roll back gender diversity programs.
In front of around 600 allies, dignitaries and family members inside the U.S. Capitol building, Trump also declared that the federal government will only recognize two sexes – male and female. The change was described as a move to end efforts to 'socially engineer race and gender into every aspect of public and private life' and pitched as a way to protect women from 'gender extremism.'.
While he did not explicitly refer to women's sports during his address inside the Capitol Rotunda, Trump's new gender policy comes after the new Commander-in-Chief previously pledged to end 'transgender lunacy.'. Transgender rights have become a contentious political topic in recent years. During November's election season, many Republicans campaigned on reversing transgender laws with a particular focus on transgender women participating in sports.
Donald Trump declared that the federal government will only recognize two sexes on Monday. Former Olympic cyclist Inga Thompson voted for Trump, despite being a lifelong Democrat. During a pre-inauguration rally on Sunday, Trump said that he will take action to 'keep all men out of women's sports.'.
