Kylian Mbappe scored one of the untidiest goals of his career during Tuesday night's 3-2 win at Manchester City when he shinned Real Madrid back into the contest. Madrid were trailing 1-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League playoff when Federico Valverde clipped in an inviting cross towards Mbappe. The former Paris Saint-Germain star's eyes lit up as he launched his body into the air and attempted to smash a flying volley inside Ederson's near post.

Plan A failed as Mbappe miskicked the ball spectacularly. However, it worked out pretty well for the 26-year-old as the ball struck his shin before looping inside the far post, with Ederson stranded. Alan Shearer was commentating on the game for Amazon Prime and the goal left the ex-England striker stunned. Upon first viewing, Shearer said: 'He doesn't get the connection that he's looking for at all, because I thought he should have tried to head it. But he waited to try and hit it on the volley.'.

KYLIAN MBAPPE EQUALISES FOR REAL MADRID! A goal off his shin, but he doesn't care!#UCLonPrime pic.twitter.com/JRJSJZOnM3. After seeing a replay, Shearer added: 'That's nowhere near the connection that he wants. He won't care one bit though, because the ball ends up in the back of the net. 'It hits his shin. How on earth does that end up in the back of the net? You don't care as a forward though. It's what you're trying to do, it's not how you do it. It's ended up in there.'.
Erling Haaland had earlier given City the lead in the 19th minute by scoring against Madrid for the first time in his career. Haaland then netted against Los Blancos again on 80 minutes to restore City's lead. However, It was 2-2 just six minutes later when Brahim Diaz got on the scoresheet against his former club. Madrid then snatched victory in added time Jude Bellingham tucked home from close range after Vinicius Junior had lobbed his fellow Brazilian Ederson.
