IF 2024 was the reign of Taylor Swift, then 2025 looks like being the year of Lady Gaga. The Shallow singer this week broke the all-time record for the most monthly listeners for a female artist in Spotify history. Staggeringly, she has clocked up 123.73million listeners, twice the number of people who live in the UK.

The record was previously held by Ariana Grande, who dethroned Taylor at the end of 2024. Only a select few artists have ever passed the 100million mark, including The Weeknd, Billie Eilish and Burno Mars. Extending her grip at the top — 16 years into her career — Gaga is currently third on Spotify’s top artists by monthly listeners.

Bruno Mars is at No1 — so they are both benefiting from their megahit Die With A Smile, which is still proving hugely popular around the world — while The Weeknd is at No2. The track yesterday extended its record as the longest- running No1 song in global Spotify history after 124 days at No1, with more than 1.8billion streams.
The new stats come just days after Gaga scored her first solo UK Top Ten hit in five years with Abracadabra. And with her seventh album Mayhem just around the corner, her chart comeback looks to have only just begun. Gaga said of the album: “Mayhem is about following your own chaos into whatever cranny of your life it takes you to. And in that way, it was about following the songs.
