Lenny Kravitz, 60, reveals ungodly hour he wakes up in order to look young

Rock icon Lenny Kravitz has revealed details of the gruelling workout routine he undertakes in order to retain his youthful physique. The award-winning musician and actor, 60, rose to fame with his debut album, Let Love Rule, in 1989. Establishing his popularity in the 90s, Lenny went on to produce the song Justify My Love for Madonna, before releasing his second album a year later.

Since then, the American Woman singer has released 10 more studio albums, including last year’s Blue Electric Light. Outside of his music career, Lenny has also appeared in the film Precious (2009) and the first two movies in the Hunger Games franchise – where he played mentor Cinna.

At 60 years old, Lenny shows no sign of slowing down—not that his brutal fitness regime would ever give him a chance to do so. In an interview with The Times, Lenny revealed the details of his daily gym routine, which sees the star already up and working out at 2:30am.

‘The other night I was in the gym at 2.30 in the morning. I was working all day. My trainer [Dodd Romero], he’s like, “Man, you are crazy. People don’t understand. They see the result, but they don’t understand that you’re in the gym at 2.30 in the morning doing this workout”.’.

Lenny continued: ‘I work with my trainer via FaceTime because he’s out doing other things. He’s with Denzel [Washington] right now, preparing for a play. I put them together years ago. Wait until you see how wonderful Denzel is looking, how healthy he is.

He added: ‘So yes, when I look at pictures from now and pictures when I was even in my twenties, there’s no comparison, which is very odd.’. In addition to working out every day, Lenny also sticks to a strictly raw, vegan, sugar-free diet. And that’s not all he abstains from. In an interview last year, the Fly Away singer revealed that he’d not had sex in nine years.

When asked whether he intended to remain celibate until he found the right woman to settle down with, Lenny told The Guardian: ‘Yes. It’s a spiritual thing.’. He continued that it’s ‘part of [his] discipline’ for his ‘body, mind and spirit.’.

‘I want all of those three elements aligned. If my body’s in shape and my spirit and mind are not, then it’s just something nice to look at or to boast about. Who cares?. ‘For me, all of it has to be aligned. And I have to do the work it takes to have all of those in alignment so my being can be at its maximum.’.

Last year, the rock icon celebrated his milestone 60th birthday with a star-studded bash coinciding with the release of his 12th studio album. Ex-wife Lisa Bonet was among the guests gathered to celebrate his birthday and album release, arriving at the party alongside their daughter Zoë Kravitz.

Lenny and The Cosby Show actress Lisa, 57, split in 1991 and divorced two years later, but have remained close for the sake of The Batman actress Zoë. Meanwhile, other guests at Lenny’s celebration included Salma Hayek and her husband François Henri-Pinault, Yungblud, Sacha Baron-Cohen and Colman Domingo.

Lenny took to Instagram to mark the release of his record, describing the road to its creation as a ‘long journey’ and ‘a labour of inspiration and love.’. He continued: ‘I want to thank you all for all of your support, all your encouragement, all of you who keep me afloat all these years, and make it possible for me to do what I do,’ he told the camera.

‘Here’s to all of us as human beings, as spiritual beings, having a human experience. ‘Here’s to the album, and I wish you all love.
