Protective Lucas Hay (Oscar Curtis) is set to call the police on Rex Gallagher (Jonny Labey) in Hollyoaks after he grows concerned about the gangster’s influence on boyfriend Dillon Ray (Nathaniel Dass). Rex, as viewers know, is hellbent on exploiting Dillon and Frankie Osborne (Isabelle Smith), preying on the teens and manipulating them into a life of crime by offering what appears to be a lifestyle they could only dream of.

The villain is working under the instruction of Grace Black (Tamara Wall), who is leading the operation following her return to the dark side, and corrupt cop DI Banks. After getting Dillon onto drugs, Rex offered the teen the chance to move into Weirside View free of charge, before manipulating him into thinking he owed him thousands in cash after claiming a bag went missing on the property.

Frankie, meanwhile, moves into the property in question later this week after a row with Darren (Ashley Taylor Dawson), who she believes cheated on Nancy (Jessica Fox) with Kat Omari (Sonia Ibrahim). When Lucas gets wind of the fact that Rex owns the house they’re living in – not to mention the fact that his boyfriend is on drugs – he’s left somewhat perturbed and, one thing leads to another, with the chef left fearing for his loved ones.

Dillon and Frankie, however, are loyal towards their new ‘friend’ and therefore tell Rex about the police, allowing him ample opportunity to throw them off his scent. The question is: will Lucas find himself in trouble as a result? Or will Frankie and Dillon keep his name out if it?.
That remains to be seen but Rex soon has his head back in the game – as he informs Grace that he’s asked Frankie and Dillon to deal at a party. Things, however, get out of control when Frankie spots Oscar at said party and urges him to go home as it’s not safe. Oscar is then left spooked when he sees Ro Hutchinson (Ava Webster), who apologises for what transpired.
Oscar is frightened and, unable to hear due to his cochlear implant being damaged, he stumbles and falls over. With recent events weighing on them, Dillon and Frankie have second thoughts – but Rex soon tempts them with perks. Will Frankie and Dillon realise what Rex is up to? Will they listen to Lucas’ pleas to stay away from the gangster?.
Or will Rex get what he wants?. Expect some intense and dramatic weeks ahead as the child exploitation storyline gets underway. In order to ensure the narrative is as authentic as possible, Hollyoaks has worked closely with Causeway, a charity that supports, empowers and creates change for survivors of modern slavery.
Real-life survivors have also informed the storyline. Hollyoaks Executive Producer Hannah Cheers said: ‘It is imperative that Hollyoaks is constantly talking to young people about safeguarding issues and ways in which abuse can infiltrate young lives.
‘The audience naturally regenerates and the issues that young adults are vulnerable to are constantly evolving. Hollyoaks is in a unique position to shine a light on them, without lecturing, due to the way that the show tells stories. ‘The research that we have, finds that the exploitation of young people is an insidious problem and growing concern for multi safeguarding agencies.‘.
