A man who repeatedly stabbed his stepdad even after being tasered has admitted manslaughter. Adejuwon Oyekan was found kneeling over 54-year-old Jason Thompson in his bed at home in Hayes, Middlesex, in July 2023. Oyekan, 32, had returned from a holiday in Ibiza two days before, and his family had become concerned about his behaviour after returning from the island.
While he had no history of mental ill health, he did have a history of taking drugs, and had past convictions for possession of cocaine and cannabis and possession with intent to supply a psychoactive substance, cocaine, ketamine and MDMA. Police were called in the early hours of July 11 after a report that Oyekan had ‘lost his mind’ and had a knife.
Once police arrived and found him kneeling over his stepdad with a large kitchen knife, he stabbed Mr Thompson in the neck. Despite being tasered, police weren’t able to detain him until firearms officers arrived. Having been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, Oyekan was due to go on trial for murder at the Old Bailey on March 31.
But instead, on Monday he pleaded guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility. The plea was accepted, and Oyekan is due to be sentenced at the same court on April 10. Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@metro.co.uk. For more stories like this, check our news page.
