Jahrome Hughes and Cameron Munster have both made a pact to go on a booze ban for the 2025 NRL season and agreed that whoever breaks the deal will forfeit a massive $10,000. While Munster is set to go t-total in a bid to get his body fighting fit following an injury-plagued 2024 campaign, Hughes will limit himself to four glasses of red wine a week but will be banned from consuming any other alcohol.

It comes in the wake of the Melbourne Storm's Grand Final defeat by Penrith last year, with Munster admitting that the impact of that loss, combined with his injury woes from last season, have both played a part in motivating him to get his body in peak condition for the upcoming season. The Storm five-eighth revealed on the new One Six Seven Podcast that during the off-season he has undergone a diet overhaul and had sought out the services of Roosters legend Anthony Minichiello, turning to a diet of organic fruits, veggies and red meat.

'I'm getting old,' Munster added, speaking on the decision to cut out alcohol. 'Maybe it's the hangovers that are coming back to me. 'Nah, I think for me it's just to get my body the best I can, not only for me but for the team. I think after last year's Grand Final loss it's really changed my mindset.'. The 2024 Dally M winner Hughes stated that because red wine was in his routine, he would not be cutting out alcohol entirely, limiting himself to four glasses per week, but said he would not be drinking anything else or binge drinking.

'I've changed it a bit because I've had a talk,' Hughes said. 'We spoke in the off-season and I said I was pretty keen to get off the p*** for the season. 'I talked to a few people about it and just because red wine is in my routine, you guys know that I don't want to take that away and make me perform bad. 'That might sound bad but I feel like red wine after a game I've done that pretty much every game. But I'm just going to hold that to two glasses twice a week.

He later added: 'No binge drinking, no beers, no voddys,' he said. Munster stated that he was motivated to get his body right for the 2025 season following last year's Grand Final heartache and the injuries he battled through during the 2024 campaign. Hughes enjoyed an epic season scoring 12 tries across 23 appearances for the Storm. Hughes enjoyed his best season yet for the Storm, returning a whopping 12 tries across 23 appearances to help the Melbourne club reach the 2024 NRL Grand Final.

Munster then spoke out on his team-mate's decision, telling the podcast: 'I want whatever's best for him. 'If he's doing what he needs to do for us to play like he did for us last year, he can do whatever.'. He added: 'It's a big wager though, $10,000.'. Munster, meanwhile, endured a stop-start 2024 season, battling through a groin and hip injury that saw him play 17 matches for Melbourne and miss the 2024 Origin Series.

He would later miss out on a Kangaroos call-up after the conclusion of the season, instead opting to go under the knife to remedy his injury woe to be fit for 2025. Munster is now looking to stay as fit as possible heading into the new season and opened up on some of the changes he has made to his diet. 'I went away for Christmas and then back into pre-season and you spoke about my diet, I've been doing a little bit with Anthony Minichiello and hopefully, I can look good but play some good footy for you boys this year,' he said.

Munster made only 17 appearances and was unavailable for Queensland during Origin due to a hip and groin injury. Hughes was crowned the Dally M winner for 2024, following his epic seasaon with the Storm. Opening up on his new diet he said: 'I was talking to Anthony and it's mainly red meat but a lot of organic fruits. I had bread yesterday which I was pretty angry about, when we went to a content day at 9, because that was the only thing I could get my hands on.
