Michael Owen and Alan Shearer agree that Arsenal pose the only real threat to Liverpool's title ambitions this season. The Reds, who are currently six points ahead of the Gunners, are set to face West Ham at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon (December 29). Under the leadership of Arne Slot, Liverpool have been a formidable force, boasting an impressive record of 13 wins, three draws, and just one surprising defeat to Nottingham Forest back in September.
In contrast, Manchester City, last season's champions, have struggled to replicate their previous form, languishing in seventh place and hampered by injuries. Liverpool also holds an advantage with a game in hand over Mikel Arteta's Arsenal, following the postponement of their Merseyside derby against Everton due to Storm Daragh earlier in December.
This gives them a chance to extend their lead even further once the rescheduled match is finally played. Owing to their dominant performance in recent months, Liverpool icon Owen - who netted 158 goals in 297 games for the club - is confident that the Reds will clinch the Premier League title come May, provided they maintain their lead over Arsenal.
Sharing his thoughts with Premier League Productions on Boxing Day after Liverpool's 3-1 victory against Leicester, Owen said: "They're [Liverpool] absolutely loving it aren't they? You can only imagine that dressing room. People will say, they [Liverpool] will come out and say, 'we don't look at other teams, we just concentrate on ourselves', and they're right to do that and they are concentrating on themselves, they are motoring along really well.
