Your wedding day is the one occasion where it's okay to be a little bit selfish. People spend several months planning their weddings, and for good reason - you want the event to be fun for your guests while also being an unforgettable experience for you and your partner. The big day should be all about the happy couple, and it's generally frowned upon to do anything that would take the spotlight away from the newlyweds.

This is why one woman was left gobsmacked when her cousin asked if she could make an "announcement" during her wedding at the end of this month. The bride-to-be said she agreed to listen to her cousin's request as she didn't want to be unreasonable, but when she told her what the announcement would be, she was horrified.

In a post on Reddit, the woman said her cousin - whom she gave the fake name Emily - wanted to use her wedding to tell everyone that she was now engaged to her partner, so would be having her own wedding soon. She wrote: "I congratulated her but immediately told her that my wedding day wasn’t the right time or place for her announcement. I explained that my fiancé and I had spent a lot of time and money planning this day, and I didn’t want anything taking attention away from the celebration.".

Her cousin looked "genuinely hurt" by the bride's denial of her request and claimed she wasn't going to "steal the spotlight" with one announcement. However, the bride stood her ground and told her no - leaving Emily to start telling family members that she was being "selfish".
