Up Next. ‘This series is incredible! The themes, story, and performances are astonishingly great, profound, and moving. Highly recommend’ Andrew posted on Rotten Tomatoes. ‘I’ve binge watched the whole series and I was hooked,’ Michael shared. ‘Zero Day on Netflix is so good! binged the whole thing in one night!’ Gabs added.
In its review Metro said the show had a ‘mind-blowing premise’ that was intriguing ‘from start from finish’ but could have instead ‘packed a punch’ as a movie instead. ‘The interactions between characters feel repetitive and unnecessarily dragged out… while there are gripping twists throughout and leading up to the finale – and I would say it’s still worth the watch – it is a shame the conclusion doesn’t match the explosive start,’ it added.
These sentiments were also echoed by other viewers who didn’t love the show as much as they’d hoped. ‘Oh dear – that’s not good. No atmosphere, very little drama, amazing given the scenario. Bland script,’ Magnus wrote. ‘It’s sad Netflix spent money on this terrible and awful series. DeNero sucked, script sucked,’ Mario shared.
‘The plot is predictable. An all too obvious political message. I’m tired of being lectured inside of movie dialog. De Niro’s acting is tired. Cinematography was good. Not enough to make it worth my time,’ Ralph added. Speaking to Netflix’s Tudum, executive producer Noah Oppenheim spoke about casting De Niro.
‘George Mullen is a character who inspires a great deal of confidence and projects a great deal of strength and integrity at first glance. And when you see Robert De Niro in a suit and tie, with an American flag pin on his lapel, he immediately strikes you as the president we all wish we had,’ he said.
‘But then beneath the surface of that, you have somebody who is deeply, emotionally complex. Obviously, Robert De Niro is one of the great actors of our time, and he’s able to summon all of that complexity.’. Zero Day also stars Angela Bassett as current US president Evelyn Mitchell, Jesse Plemons as Mullen’s former aide Roger Carlson, Lizzy Caplan as Mullen’s daughter Alexandra Mullen, a young congressional representative from New York who’s worked hard to distance herself from her father’s political legacy and establish herself in her own right. Other stars include Connie Britton, Joan Allen and Matthew Modine.
