The ongoing legal feud between actress Blake Lively and It Ends With Us director and co-star Justin Baldoni rumbles on, but fans believe they have spotted a new twist. Blake, who is married to actor Ryan Reynolds , has accused Justin Baldoni of sexual harassment and causing “severe emotional distress” during filming of romantic drama It Ends With Us, while Baldoni has refuted the allegations and sued Blake and Ryan for £321 million for attempting to “destroy” his reputation and career. The pair are due to face each other in court in 2026.
Videos from the set and audio recordings have been released on both sides, but now fans are looking at the film itself and one specific scene that they believe is evidence that Blake and husband Ryan may have taken control of the movie, as it is similar to a scene from Green Lantern, the 2011 comic book movie she starred in with Ryan before they were married.
In It Ends With Us, there is a scene in which Blake and Justin’s characters share a dance, a scene that is already controversial as Blake accused Justin of dragging his lips down her neck during filming while telling her “it smells so good.” Blake has said no one overheard his comment as the scene was silent so their microphones were turned off, but Justin has since released unedited footage of the scene that shows his mic was on and he was commenting on the smell of his co-star’s fake tan, a comment that he claims caused Blake to laugh.
Fans have noted that the dance scene is similar to one from Green Lantern, in which Blake’s character Carol Ferris dances with Ryan’s superhero Hal Jordan. One viewer wrote: “I noticed that about 30 mins into the film, there's a scene where Lively and Reynolds characters dance in a bar in an almost identical way to the slow dance scene from IEWU. The only difference is the characters were talking.” They added: “Could it be possible that Lively was trying to recreate the scene to be similar to the scene she did with her husband when she fell in love with him? Did she rewrite the scene to mirror the details of the dance? Is this what she means when she says her husband is 'all over this movie'?".
Blake previously spoke about Ryan’s involvement in It Ends With Us to E! News: “The iconic rooftop scene, my husband actually wrote it. Nobody knows that, but you now. We help each other, we work together so much… he works on everything I do, I work on everything he does, so his wins, his celebrations are mine and mine are his.”.
Other fans commented on the comparison between Green Lantern and It Ends With Us. One wrote: “I was not a fan of the movie and now I wonder if those two added their input into the movie and perhaps that is why it sucked.” Another wrote: “Just another layer of weirdness in an already strange situation. It’s weird that Blake would choose a movie about abuse that blows up in everyone's face — especially when it mirrors how she and her husband first met on set.” However, a third fan noted that it was a something of a stretch to compare the two dance scenes, noting: “To be fair, I had to watch it twice to be sure.”.
Blake and Ryan met on the set of superhero movie Green Lantern in 2010, which was a box office flop when it was released the following year. Ryan has since made fun of the film in his hit films Deadpool and Deadpool 2. The couple started dating in late 2011, following Ryan’s divorce from Scarlett Johansson being finalised earlier that year. They were married in 2012 and have four children.
