A survey has found that 35% of homeowners love their properties as much as their partners. Some 68% of respondents admitted to "truly loving" their homes, and 81% feel a strong sense of protection over them. The research indicated that nearly half (48%) would be offended if someone spoke ill of their home, findings by HomeServe suggest. Brits on average spend £806 annually on home improvements, whereas £388 is spent on presents for their partner.

In the spirit of Valentine's Day, HomeServe has concocted an online quiz aimed at helping participants work out what kind of "home personality" they have. Weighing in, Psychologist Dr Audrey Tang said: "Our homes are far more than just where we live – they are deeply personal spaces that reflect who we are. We personalise them, shape them to our needs, and share them with the people closest to us.

"This connection goes beyond aesthetics: our homes represent safety, identity, and control. They’re where we can truly relax and be authentic, free from the roles we perform in the outside world. It’s no surprise that people invest so much in their homes – they’re not just places, they’re physical extensions of ourselves.". This January-conducted Opinium research interviewed 2,000 people.
