Basking in winter sunlight and surrounded by waters, the stunning Spanish city of Cadiz in Andalusia is not only one of Europe's oldest metropolis but also a haven where you can enjoy a pint for just £2.50. Hailed as the most ancient city on the continent by Turismo de Cadiz, its history spans several illustrious civilisations including the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, and Muslims.

Visitors to Cadiz are enticed by the mild temperatures between 17C to 24C during the colder months, and the price of beer costing less than £2.50 on average. With its prime location protruding into the Bay of Cadiz and nearly encompassed by water, Cadiz boasts continuous inhabitance since 1100BC.

Travellers taking to Tripadvisor have been eager to share their experiences, with one admirer exclaiming, "Cadiz beach is lovely. I just spent 5 days in the city. The people there might be the warmest I've encountered in all of Spain. Did my best to eat as much as I could!" Meanwhile, a British holidaymaker raved: "Great walking tour today. Told us so much about Cadiz in a fun and informative way.".

Another added: "Really encouraged us to go and see some things, like the Roman theatre, on our own later on. Thoroughly recommend.". For historical enthusiasts and beach lovers alike, the must-sees of Cadiz include its pristine beaches, ancient sights, and cultural experiences like Jerez's famed sherry and the prestigious Royal Andalusian Horse School. Jetting off from London, travellers are just under three hours away from touching down at Jerez Airport and beginning their sun-soaked Spanish getaway, reports the Express.

Another tourist raved about their experience, saying: "I had only been in Cadiz for maybe an hour before I happened upon this amazing beach. Facing the Atlantic, the views were spectacular and the sand very soft.". They added: "While sitting on the beach you can expect a beer vendor to happen by which was a very nice treat after sitting in the sun all day.".

Lonely Planet recommends revelling in Spain's most exuberant carnival currently taking place, indulging in Cadiz's mouthwatering tapas, sinking into the city's pulsating flamenco scene, and soaking up the authentic Spanish coffee culture.
