One Tree Hill star Bevin Prince has opened up about the grief of losing husband William Friend after he was struck by lightning. The actress' world was turned upside down when her husband lost his life at age 33 during a boat excursion in North Carolina in 2022. Speaking on the new episode of Missionary podcast, the 42-year-old reflected on what it has been like to loss her partner so unexpectedly. 'I think when you lose a partner at any age, what really you start to grieve are multiple things,' she began.

'It's the loss of a loved one and, at the same time, it's the loss of a future you started to plan.'. She continued: 'Every goal and dream I made for myself was wrapped around our love, then all of that gets pulled away and your identity is stripped.'. Opening up about his poignant final words, she recalled: 'He was standing in the water, looked at my father, handed him a cigar, and he lit it, he looked at my dad and he said, "Well, Mike, if we get struck by lightning out here this is where I want to be" and seconds later he was struck.'.

Bevin continued: 'We were very fortunate that anything that could've been done was done. However, William 'had instantly passed from the lightning strike.'. In the years that have passed, the star has worked hard to accept the all forms of the grieving process but doesn't let it define her life. 'The acceptance of the reality is going to allow you to move with grief and not have it stifle you,' she noted. Now the star - who wed William in 2016 - takes comfort in the moments of joy she experiences since the heartbreaking loss.

'I couldn't have imagined the days of joy that I have,' she explained. 'Even now, I couldn't have imagined those were possible. I can tell you with absolute certainty if you just show up and just continue to show up at some point... and talk. 'I was right into therapy... I had a lot of resources available to me and I held onto them for dear life.'. Back in December 2022, she opened up to ABC News about the way his death had felt 'divine' in nature.

Opening up about his poignant final words, she recalled: 'He looked at my dad and he said, "Well, Mike, if we get struck by lightning out here this is where I want to be"'. The pair launched the outdoor cycling studio, Recess by Bevin Prince, in Wilmington in November 2020 after making the move from New York amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

'He was 33 years old. It was July 3, and I believe the exact time that the lightning struck was 3.13pm. So knowing that all the resources were there to potentially save him, I have to believe that something bigger beyond me was calling him.'. She also spoke about how proud she was to have known him and to have shared her life with him. 'He was one of the the funniest people I've ever met in my life, by far. He lit up every single room he came into. You never forgot when you met Will Friend,' she gushed.
