Paul Scholes admits he'd be "offended" if Manchester United sold Kobbie Mainoo as they consider offloading some of their homegrown talent. Bosses at Old Trafford have opened the entire squad up for offers as they look to toe the line financially and will listen to bids for their prized assets. Homegrown player sales are most beneficial when it comes to PSR and that would the likes of Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho.
Mainoo has only been in the first team for a little over 12 months but has become one their leading lights and is among the best academy graduates the club has produced for years. Chelsea are among those keen on the midfielder, who is still locked in contract negotiations with the club, with United not ruling out the sale of one of their leading lights. Garnacho too could move on with Napoli keen this month and Scholes would be fuming to see the Manchester outfit let go one of their own.
He told TNT Sports: "It'd be absolutely ridiculous if the club had to sell him. All the hard work that the club had to do, he's been here since seven, eight years of age, Mainoo, and then you have to sell him for PSR rules? It's ridiculous. He's United's brightest spark, the leading man who could be here for the next five to 10 years.".
On Garnacho he added: "I can see it with Garnacho. I think United can get better than Garnacho. Although he's a young player and there's better to come, he's a little scruffy and his decision-making at times is really poor. Garnacho, I wouldn't be afraid or worried if they sold, Mainoo I'd be offended by that.".
