Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has revealed the franchise will ‘continue’ after the upcoming feature film. The British period crime drama ran from 2013 until 2022. Set in Birmingham, it starred Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby and followed the exploits of the Peaky Blinders gang following the First World War.

After much speculation, in June last year it was confirmed a Peaky Blinders movie was on the way, with the lead star saying at the time: ‘It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me.’. Although the plot and air date have been kept closely under wraps, Knight has said it will be an ‘explosive chapter’ in the story with ‘no holds barred’.

But although many believed the movie could mark the final chapter for the gang on screen, he’s now indicated that’s not the case. Appearing on BBC Breakfast this week, Knight teased the door had been left open for more. ‘We wrapped on December the 13th and we are just putting it together,’ he said.

‘It’s fantastic. I think we’ve got the best British actors in one place…no-one will be disappointed. It’s a very fitting way to end this part of the Peaky story.’. He then added his wording was done ‘deliberately’. ‘It’s not over. Let’s just put it that way. I’m not allowed to announce it, but I’m just saying that the world of Peaky will continue.’.

The Peaky Blinders movie will also feature Stephen Graham, Rebecca Ferguson and Barry Keoghan. When promoting his latest TV series A Thousand Blows, Knight also recently spoke to Metro about the upcoming movie.

‘I can tell you nothing,’ he admitted. ‘It’s set in World War Two. If you’ve seen the cast list, you’ll know it’s just about the best actors of this generation, all in one place, and I’ve seen rushes and assemblies, and it is not going to disappoint.’.

Speaking to Metro in 2022, he had said: ‘I know what the story is and I’m writing at the moment. ‘It’s a very specific story, that’s based on a true story from the Second World War and will be told in the Peaky way.’. The 'bustling' suburb Londoners are flocking to — while it's still affordable.
