Treating fans to a once-in-a-lifetime surprise performance for free, Sheeran was videoed playing some of his greatest hits on Church Street in the city. ‘We were going to play more than one song, but we’re only allowed to play only one song, so hopefully that’s enough,’ he explained. But when he was midway through belting out smash hit single Shape Of You, a police officer came along and cut the performance short.

Despite fans appearing to try and explain who the musician was, the officer continued to shut down the performance unplugging the microphone at Sheeran’s feet and sending everyone on their way. Sheeran took to his Instagram Stories to address what had happened: ‘We had permission to busk btw, hence us playing in that exact spot, was planned out before, wasn’t just us randomly turning up. ”All good though, see ya at the concert tonight.’.

It came after Shekar T Tekkannanavar, Deputy Commissioner of Police in Central Bengaluru, told ANI News Agency that Sheeran’s request to perform in the area was denied. ‘A member among the event organisers came to meet me to seek permission for the streetside performance at Church Street,’ he said. ‘I refused to give permission because Church Street gets very crowded. That is the reason he was asked to vacate the place.’.
