While she’s just found out her fiancé is a killer, the nightmare is only just beginning for EastEnders’ Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy). A new trailer previewing more of the drama from the BBC soap’s 40th anniversary episodes this week has revealed the terrifying moment she goes into labour after the Queen Vic explodes.

Spoilers have already revealed how she will prepare to deliver her baby in the middle of the disaster zone during Thursday’s live episode. But now fans have been given a first look at the jeopardy ahead as she clutches her stomach in agony amid the ashen remains of the boozer. In the new teaser trailer, Sonia’s sister Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer) armed with a rolling pin and warning someone to ‘back away’ as Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) watches in on terror.

This is likely to be Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman), who is set to stage a frightening return to the Square later this week. He went on the run last week after finally admitting to Sonia he was the one who killed his comatose wife Debbie last year and had let Sonia face trial for the crime. Having been kept hostage in Reiss’ storage unit by him since November, Bianca also managed to escape his evil clutches – but it looks like her ordeal is still far from over….
As Natalie prepares to act out giving birth again, she will no doubt be recalling the advice the late great June Brown gave her the last time her character went into labour. EastEnders fans will remember that Sonia gave birth to daughter Bex (then Chloe) back in her living room back in 2000, having had no idea she was pregnant in the first place. Natalie recently spoke what June, who played her on-screen grandmother Dot Cotton, told her as she prepared for the scenes.
Speaking during her appearance on a celebrity edition of The Great British Bake Off over Christmas, Natalie said: ‘I had June Brown, Dot Cotton, and she went “darling, it’s like pooing a melon” and that was all the info I needed.’. EastEnders’ 40th anniversary live episode airs on Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
