A terrifying prediction made in the 16th century warning of a terrible plague may show signs of coming true. Astrologer Michel de Nostredame, better known as Nostradamus, is said to have predicted the disturbing world event in his book Les Propheties, which was published in 1555.

While his forecasts are often vague, the French philosopher has been credited with accurately foreseeing a variety of world happenings, including the rise of Adolf Hitler. Now, it appears that he may have predicted the latest coronavirus strain, which virologists have discovered in China.

In his 1555 text 'Les Propheties', the 'Prophet of Doom' wrote: 'The ancient plague will be worse than enemies,' according to the Mirror. It comes after another coronavirus, feared to be powerful enough to spread through humans, has been discovered in China.

In scenes eerily reminiscent of the beginnings of Covid, researchers at the infamous Wuhan Institute of Virology detected the new strain living within bats. HKU5-CoV-2 is strikingly similar to the pandemic virus, sparking fears that history could repeat itself just two years after the worst was declared over.
Michel de Nostredame, better known as Nostradamus (pictured), made a chilling prediction about a 'plague' in 2025. The new virus is even closer related to MERS, a deadlier type of coronavirus that kills up to a third of people it infects. Virologist Shi Zhengli, known as 'Batwoman' for her work on coronaviruses, led the discovery, published in a top scientific journal.
Tests showed HKU5-CoV-2 infiltrated human cells in the same way as SARS-CoV-2, the virus behind Covid. Sharing their discovery in the journal Cell, the Beijing-funded researchers admitted it posed a 'high risk of spillover to humans, either through direct transmission or facilitated by intermediate hosts.'.
MERS is a contagious respiratory illness spread from animals to humans and from human to human. It causes fever, cough, shortness of breath, diarrhea and vomiting, and can be fatal in severe cases. Only two patients in the US have ever tested positive for MERS - both in May 2014 -and each case was linked to travel from the Middle East. There is no vaccine against the virus.
In his 1555 text 'Les Propheties', Nostradarmus wrote: 'The ancient plague will be worse than enemies' (stock image of germs). The new HKU5-CoV-2 is a coronavirus belonging to the merbecovirus family of pathogens. Merbecoviruses have been detected in minks and pangolins - the animal believed to be the intermediary for Covid between bats and humans.
This, scientists wrote, 'suggests frequent cross-species transmission of these viruses between bats and other animal species.'. They added: 'This study reveals a distinct lineage of HKU5-CoVs in bats that efficiently use human [cells] and underscores their potential zoonotic risk.'.
HKU5-CoV viruses were first detected in bats in 2006, but the new data suggests HKU5-CoV-2 has a 'higher potential for interspecies infection' than others. However, the potential for HKU5-CoV-2 to spill over to humans 'remains to be investigated.'. It comes after a psychic who claims he successfully predicted dozens of global events in 2024 claimed we will observe 'a worldwide transformation' by the year 2032 - after NASA revised its risk of an asteroid hitting Earth.
Athos Salomé, 38, from Brazil, is often referred to as the 'Living Nostradamus' after he correctly predicted past disasters including the coronavirus pandemic, Queen Elizabeth's death, and the Microsoft global outage. The latest coronavirus research team was led by virologist Shi Zhengli, known as 'Batwoman' for her work on coronaviruses (pictured).
Salomé weighed in on the worrying news that chances of the 'city-killing' asteroid YR4 smashing into Earth have increased. The space agency revealed the risk now sit at 3.1 percent, a five percent increase from the previous prediction, or 1 in 32 odds of impact on December 22, 2032.
Speaking to FEMAIL Salomé said: 'In 2032, we may observe either a worldwide transformation or a successful human achievement that allows the 2024 YR4 event to come without destructive effects. 'Our existence within the cosmos proves to be both vulnerable and splendid despite every situation.'.
The psychic predicted that asteroid would either 'lose its strength' or it will be 'deflected' or even 'eliminated' before it reaches earth. He claimed by 2026 we will truly know just how serious it is, however he admitted we are in a 'time period of uncertainty.'.
He said: 'The future exists as an untainted canvas on which we still do not know what role we will play afterward.'. Salomé claimed to have predicted the asteroids in 2023, before it was announced by the NASA Space Station. Bats have the highest proportion of coronaviruses and are considered reservoirs for them (bat stock image).
He added: 'When I first started talking about asteroids, it was in the year 2023, which on the contrary is equal to 2032. 'I said that by November 2024 it would be announced and coincidentally we had several asteroids colliding with the earth between the months of July and December and on 27 December 2024 YR4 was officially announced.'.
