Suspicions were raised when it was immediately followed by the New Labour anthem Things Can Only Get Better. The D-Ream classic was memorably blasted out by “Stop Brexit” rabble-rouser Steve Bray during Mr Sunak’s election announcement. Sir Sadiq previously sparked fury in 2019 for lighting up the London Eye in the colours of the EU flag while he was agitating for a second referendum. Tory London Assembly Member Susan Hall told The Sun: "Khan has form on politicising the NYE fireworks. Nothing he does there surprises me.
