Sony has announced its first State of Play presentation for 2025: a 40-minute gaming extravaganza devoted to upcoming PlayStation 5 games. Rumours have been circulating about such an event for a while now, so it hardly comes as a surprise. We also have a good idea of what to expect thanks to a flurry of recent leaks, including a trailer for an iconic stealth action game that may have been destined for the show.
Here’s how you can tune into the action live and the games to look out for. Sony is holding the State of Play on Wednesday, February 12 at 10pm UK time (2pm PT / 5pm ET). The event will conclude at 10.40pm. This State of Play is Sony’s chance to lay out its stall for 2025. Based on past events, we know of several planned games still need concrete release dates, and chief among them is Ghost of Yōtei. The samurai epic, and follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima, could get a gameplay trailer that also reveals when exactly you can play it.
Then, there’s Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Hideo Kojima’s phantasmagoric sci-fi parable recently received an age rating in Korea, suggesting that its launch could be imminent. Marvel’s Wolverine could also make an appearance. While it’s unclear if it’s destined for 2025, it’s just the type of big-name release (from a big name developer in Insomniac Games, the studio that brought us the excellent Spider-Man 2) that could get tongues wagging.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been delayed to March, but that doesn’t stop Ubisoft from showing off more gameplay from this Japan-set instalment in the beloved series. For more hack-and-slash-action, there’s Phantom Blade Zero, which could be this year’s Black Myth: Wukong. That is to say, a breakout Chinese game that treads the line between a more accessible RPG and a fiendishly challenging Soulslike.
After years of speculation, we don’t want to raise expectations of a Bloodborne remake or remaster just to see fans’ hopes dashed. But, never say never, right?. Oh, and that stealth action game we alluded to above? None other than Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, which recently had its trailer leaked after it appeared on the backend of the PlayStation Store. A game like that surely has to get a proper reveal at State of Play.
