Succession star, Brian Cox, has admitted to taking Ozempic in a sassy statement. A whole host of celebrities, such as Sharon Osbourne, have taken the drug - which is used to treat diabetes - for weight loss. There are concerns that some stars, including Sharon, have become too thin after using Ozempic after the Osbourne star admitted she was struggling to put on weight despite having quit the medication.
However, when Hollywood A-lister, Brian, 78, was told how well he was looking on the Jonathan Ross Show, which airs on the weekend, he admitted he was taking Ozempic - but made it clear he was using it for the purpose for which it it's intended. Jonathan speaks to the stage and screen icon about his new play The Score currently showing at Theatre Royal Haymarket in the show. After complimenting Brian on how trim he's looking, the actor replies: “I know because…Ozempic. No, it’s true. I am a diabetic and Ozempic is for diabetics, it is not for fat people.”.
Ozempic is a brand name for semaglutide, a medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. It belongs to a class of drugs called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. Semaglutide works by mimicking the action of the hormone GLP-1, which helps regulate blood sugar levels by stimulating insulin secretion, slowing down gastric emptying, and reducing appetite. It is typically injected once weekly and is often prescribed alongside diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, semaglutide has been studied for its potential benefits in weight management and cardiovascular health.
Celebrities such as Sharon and Stephen Fry popularised the use of the drug. However, Sharon has urged others to think twice about using Ozempic after her own experience. The mum-of-three was taking the drug in 2023, but found it left her feeling constantly queasy. She lost 42lbs but has since admitted she is desperate to put some weight on but can't - despite having quit the medication. Speaking to the Loose Women panel last year, she said: “I don’t regret it. Everything with weight with me was, ‘I want it now.’ The injections that I was on worked, but it just seems that now I can’t put anything on really.”.
"I lost 42lb - that’s 3st - but it was too much. Now, I weigh just over 7st. I need to put on 10lb, but however much I eat, I stay the same weight," she said, insisting she had 'learned her lesson'. *The Jonathan Ross Show is on Saturday at 9.35PM ON ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player.
