A little known village which boasts stunning views of lakes, salt marshes and beaches is just 11 miles from a tourist hot-spot. Knott-End-on-Sea is a hidden gem in Lancashire which makes a great staycation spot in both winter and summer. The beautiful village features a variety of things to do including scenic walks, ferry trips and bird watching opportunities. The village is so beautiful that artists have highlighted the area in all of its glory in their paintings. On top of its appearance and activities, it's not too far from the famous seaside town of Blackpool, known as Las Vegas of the North and welcoming millions of tourists every year.

Knott End can often be overlooked due to its high-profile neighbour, however, the lesser-known spot has its perks. The village may also be quieter when it is colder outside. But that doesn't mean it is somewhere to overlook in the colder, less glamorous months. It's got links to royalty, after all, and you probably won't have to queue or fight through any crowds, either.

A wander or brisk stroll along the the Prince Phillip Riverside Walk, dedicated to the memory of the late royal, is more likely to require a bobble hat and gloves over a vest top and sunglasses at this time of the year, but on a blue-sky day, it's refreshing and pleasant. You'll likely pass several dog walkers, most offering a friendly nod and wholesome 'hello' and don't forget to pause and admire The Matchstick Man and his Dog statue at the jetty, which is artwork dedicated to LS Lowry, who liked to visit Knott End for inspiration.
