Several Netflix fan-favourite shows will land back on our screens one final time this year as storylines are set to conclude. Some of these also just happen to be the streaming platform’s biggest titles of all time. But each one of Netflix's shows, no matter how popular, must sooner or later end. Here’s a look at which of them will be bowing out in 2025, along with release dates we know about. The much-loved Karate Kid spin-off was originally produced as a YouTube Premium series before moving to Netflix after the show’s first and second seasons.
It is a wildly popular title that has remained reliably successful for Netflix, even now in its sixth series - though it unfortunately will be hanging up its black belt for good very soon. The plot of Cobra Kai picks up where the 1984 Karate Kid film left off three decades ago, and features its rival lead characters, including Johnny Lawrence who bullied karate champion Daniel LaRusso when they were in school.
The spin-off series opens with both stars continuing to live their lives in separately, with Johnny working as a part-time handyman and suffering from alcoholism and depression and Daniel seemingly enjoying success he’s achieved over the years. He owns a lucrative car business, and is married with two children - who eventually choose to join the karate world alongside other teens in the San Fernando Valley.
This new karate journey takes them to one final and fierce Sekai Taikai competition the final episodes explore, but fans will take closure in knowing that this doesn’t mark the end of the franchise. An upcoming Karate Kid: Legends film featuring familiar stars is set to be released soon. You, based on the series of books by author Caroline Kepnes, has been incredibly popular since its 2018 debut. The psychological thriller, with an intriguingly complex plot, stars former Gossip Girl actor Penn Badgley who plays Joe Goldberg, an obsessive stalker and serial killer.
A recent trailer sees Joe, a character who is anything but heroic, return to the Mooney’s book shop in New York where he worked during the series’ first season. Other snippets show him washing blood off his hands. Joe’s behaviour caught up with him after three seasons of You, when he faked his own death and moved out of California to London, following a romance with a woman who turned out to also be an obsessive stalker in a hair-raising twist. In season 4, Joe adopts a new identity before he eventually returns to New York in preparation for a storyline that will bring his story to an end.
Big Mouth is one of Netflix’s most popular adult animated shows. It is a coming-of-age comedy about a group of middle-schoolers getting to grips with puberty and teenage life. While many have enjoyed its long run of seven series, the eighth will be the last. “We didn’t ever think this was a show that should go on forever,” co-creator Nick Kroll told The Wrap. “There’s ample opportunity to continue telling stories from these characters, but at the moment, it felt like we told a very complete story.”.
The show has also been admired for its vocals cast, which boasts big names in the entertainment industry, including prominent comedians Nick Kroll, John Mulaney and Maya Rudolph. The intense Korean drama became a breakout success after its 2021 release on Netflix, which saw Lee Jung-jae’s character Seong Gi-hun receive a mysterious invitation to join a game offering a prize of 45.6 billion South Korean won (around £27m).
When they arrive to a remote island, the brutal competition sees hundreds of people go head to head-in-hopes of winning childhood games - though the series is certainly not one for children. Hwang Dong-hyuk, Squid Game’s writer, director and executive producer recently confirmed the third and final season would be arriving this summer. “Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), who vowed revenge at the end of season one, returns and joins the game again,” Dong-hyuk wrote in a letter announcing the show’s endgame.
“Will he succeed in getting his revenge? Front Man doesn’t seem to be an easy opponent this time either. “The fierce clash between their two worlds will continue into the series finale in season three, which will be brought to you next year.”. The show will debut only months after the second season landed. Stranger Things, starring Millie Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard almost immediately became an overnight success when it was released in 2016. It made the actors hugely popular while actors such as Winona Ryder also saw a resurgence in popularity.
The plot is set in the small town of Hawkins, that is usually very peaceful until a peculiar incident starts a chain of events that lead to a boy named Will going missing. His friends make an alliance with a girl named Eleven who reveals herself to have special powers as they investigate supernatural occurrences behind his disappearance and attempt to retrieve him from a place called the Upside Down.
