Mohamed Salah leads the Premier League for goals and assists this term, but that's not enough to earn the Liverpool star a spot in Tim Sherwood's team of the season so far. Salah scored once and set up two more goals in Sunday as the Reds put five past West Ham. That took him to 17 goals and 13 assists - comfortably more than any other player on both counts.

Former Tottenham and Aston Villa boss Sherwood looked elsewhere for his team of the season, though. He never managed a team against a Liverpool side with Salah in it, though the Egyptian was an unused sub when Chelsea hammered Sherwood's Spurs back in 2014.

There was only room for one player per team in Sherwood's team of the season, which the pundit provided to Sky Sports. Trent Alexander-Arnold was the league leaders' sole representative, with Salah missing out in a creative line-up which many took issue with.

Everton's Jordan Pickford got the nod in goal, with Alexander-Arnold and Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez at full-back. Nottingham Forest new boy Nikola Milenkovic and Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi rounded out the back four. Sherwood took some positional liberties in midfield, moving Wolves forward Matheus Cunha back into a three with Cole Palmer of Chelsea and Tottenham star Dejan Kulusevski. West Ham's Jarrod Bowen joined Arsenal's Bukayo Saka and Newcastle hotshot Alexander Isak up top, with no room for any player from the pundit's old club Villa.

The selection was met with a fair bit of confusion from plenty of social media users. "I get it's one player from each team but you have to choose Salah over Trent," wrote one, while another said "Just put [Aaron[ Wan-Bissaka as right-back and get Salah in.".
