Manchester United fell to yet another Premier League defeat as James Maddison’s goal condemed them to a 1-0 defeat against Tottenham. United arrived in north London short of confidence and without several key players after injuries to Lisandro Martinez, Amad Diallo, Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo. Tottenham, however, were able to welcome back a number of key players, and it was the returning Maddison who scored the game’s winner with a well-taken finish in the first half.

Alejandro Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee squandered good chances to rescue a point for Ruben Amorim’s side who slide down to 15th in the league table. Relive all the action from Sunday’s Premier League clash with Metro’s matchday live blog below:. That will do us for today – stay tuned across Metro’s site for all the reaction and analysis from the weekend’s action. Until next time!. Spurs will look to make it three wins in a row in the league next weekend as they travel to Portman Road to face Ipswich Town on Saturday.

United, meanwhile, face a tough test away at Everton who have enjoyed a superb resurgence under David Moyes. ‘It was important we won today. ‘I did think our press was better. We made it hard for United to get out and that certainly helped to get a grounding in the game. We looked sharp. Front third movements were missing a bit. ‘We lacked a bit of fluency in the front third. We will improve and we need to, but it was a decent effort. They’re all keen to get out there but game rhythm comes with playing games.

‘As much as you train, playing a game of football is different. Vicario and Mads handled it well. Was great to get some time into Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert. We are going to need them. We still feel we have a big back half of the year.’. It’s not been a season to remember for Spurs, but they’ve certainly enjoyed themselves against United. Postecoglou’s side are now the first side to win three separate games against Manchester United in a single season in all competitions since Chelsea in 2012-13.

Spurs have also completed a league double over the Red Devils for the first time since 1989-90 under Terry Venables. ‘It was the difference of the game, they scored and we didn’t. We had the opportunities. We had situations in transitions, trying to get a result, but in the end they scored and we didn’t. ‘We want to recover the players, I think we can recover some players for the next game. We have to be together to finish the season and start over.

‘I am not worried. I understand our fans, what the media think about it. I hate to lose, that feeling is the worst. ‘The rest I am not thinking about. I am here to help my players. I understand my situation, my job, I am confident on my work and I just want to win games. ‘The place in the table is my worry, I am not worried about me.’. ‘It’s always difficult being out injured. You miss one game or 10, you are always champing at the bit to get back. I went into the game today knowing I can be the difference.

‘I’m really proud of the boys, obviously it has been an up and down season, we are not where we want to be in the league table. I’m really happy for the lads and for the fans, we’re sending them home happy. ‘I’ve always been a goalscoring midfielder. That’s why Spurs brought me to the club. I’m there to be that creative outlet and score goals. ‘There was a little bit of outside noise this week. People will have their opinions. Nobody is more critical of me than myself. The gaffer prefers when we are in our own bubble but it’s difficult with social media, you see this stuff.

‘To be fair to the boys who have been fit all season, we don’t want to make excuses, but the last few months have been really difficult. The lads who have relentlessly been going every three days, it’s nice to be an injured player coming back to take the pressure off them. ‘It’s about us being present now and leading like they did during the bad run.’. Manchester United have lost 12 of their 25 Premier League games this season (W8 D5), their most defeats from their first 25 matches of a league campaign since 1973-74 (13) – when they were last relegated from the top-flight.

James Maddison has scored four goals in his last four starts in the Premier League, as many as his previous 21 beforehand. The Tottenham midfielder scored his first goal against Manchester United in the competition, in his 12th appearance versus the Red Devils. And there goes the full-time whistle. Spurs cling on for a huge three points to complete the league double over United!. But it’s more misery for Ruben Amorim’s side who are now down to 15th in the league table….

90+3 mins: Tel should score as Spurs turn the ball over high up in United’s half. The Frenchman brings down the ball but can’t sort his feet out before Onana pounces and grabs the ball. 90+1 mins: Three minutes of added time to play as Chido Obi comes on for his United debut. Casemiro makes way. 90 mins: A sloppy pass out from Onana and Dorgu is caught napping, tripping up Porro and picking up a yellow card as the Spaniard nips in to win the ball.
