TRIBUTES have been paid to a woman who was found dead on a ferry as she took her father-in-law's body home to Ireland. Mary Cash's body was discovered in the bathroom of the Stena Nordica as it made its way into Rosslare Europort in Wexford on Tuesday - sparking a mass brawl onboard.

The ship’s captain made an emergency call for assistance as the ferry approached the port and Mary was pronounced dead at the scene. Cops arrested a 40-year-old man but it is now believed Mary, 39 - who lived in Harrow, north London - had taken her own life.

It's understood she was travelling on the ferry with her husband Ned and other members of her family for the funeral of Martin Cash in Co Kildare. He had died at his home, also in north London, earlier this month - and it was his wish to be buried in his homeland.

A service was held at St Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church in Edgeware the day before the ferry crossing. A notice posted by Ned Cash on Facebook said: "Anyone that is following him back to ireland are to be at his yard Tuesday 6.30am.". A relative said in a tribute posted on social media: "RIP Uncle Ned's Mary, may God be good to you and give you the best bed in Heaven.

A third person added: "Heart breaking poor Ned going to bury his father tomorrow now his beautiful wife. "Jesus heal broken hearted give her family strength true this heart breaking time.". A witness told MailOnline armed gardaí and a public order unit were called to the scene.

In a statement, gardaí said: "A post mortem examination on the deceased woman has been completed, the results of which are not being released for operational reasons. "The male arrested in connection with the investigation has been released from detention without charge.

"A Garda Family Liaison Officer (FLO) continues to engage with and support the family of the deceased. "A Garda Senior Investigating Officer, will now supervise the completion of an investigation for the purpose of a file to assist a Coroner's Inquest.
