US President Donald Trump has labeled Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a ‘modestly successful comedian’ and ‘terrible’ leader who convinced America to spend billions on the war with Russia. Trump said Zelensky ‘talked the United States of America into spending $350 Billion Dollars, to go into a War that couldn’t be won’.

‘The United States has spent $200 Billion Dollars more than Europe, and Europe’s money is guaranteed, while the United States will get nothing back,’ Trump continued. ‘Why didn’t Sleepy Joe Biden demand Equalization, in that this War is far more important to Europe than it is to us — We have a big, beautiful Ocean as separation.’.

He blasted Zelensky in a Truth Social post that he also shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, a day after US and Russian officials left Zelensky out of peace negotiations in Saudi Arabia. ‘In the meantime, we are successfully negotiating an end to the War with Russia, something all admit only “TRUMP,” and the Trump Administration, can do,’ the US president wrote.

‘Biden never tried, Europe has failed to bring Peace, and Zelenskyy probably wants to keep the “gravy train” going.’. Trump said that ‘the only thing’ Zelensky was good at was ‘playing Biden “like a fiddle.”‘. Up Next. Russia in February 2022 launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine and demanded that the smaller country be banned from joining NATO. Trump on Tuesday said Zelensky ‘should have never started’ the war. Zelensky responded that Trump ‘lives in this disinformation space’.
Trump in his social media post also claimed that Zelensky ‘admits that half of the money we sent him is “MISSING”‘ and that he refuses to have elections in his country and is polling low. ‘I love Ukraine, but Zelenskyy has done a terrible job, his Country is shattered, and MILLIONS have unnecessarily died – And so it continues…..’ Trump concluded.
Trump’s figures are inaccurate, based on a Ukraine support tracker by the Kiel Institute. According to the institute, the US has given $118.9billion in aid to Ukraine from January 2022 through the end of 2024, while Europe has allocated $137.7billion.
UK Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch agreed with Trump that Europe needs to step up its financial commitments – but also praised Zelensky and vowed to continue supporting Ukraine. ‘President Zelenskyy is not a dictator. He is the democratically elected leader of Ukraine who bravely stood up to Putin’s illegal invasion,’ wrote Badenoch on X.
‘Under my leadership, and under successive Conservative Prime Ministers, we have and always will stand with Ukraine.’. She advocated for a fully funded plan to increase defence spending by at least 2.5%. ‘President Trump is right that Europe needs to pull its weight – and that includes the UK,’ she said.
‘We need to get serious.’. Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday said that a ‘hysterical’ reaction to the US and Russia talks is unnecessary because ‘no one is excluding Ukraine’ from the peacemaking. ‘In my opinion, we have taken a first step to resume work in a variety of areas that are of mutual interest,’ Putin said of the Riyadh meeting in televised remarks.
‘Without increasing the level of trust between Russia and the United States, it is impossible to resolve many issues, including the Ukrainian crisis.’. The Kremlin said bilateral relations under Biden, in comparison to Trump, were ‘below zero’. Putin added that he would be ‘happy to meet with Donald’ at a summit.
‘But we are in such a situation that it is not enough to meet to have tea, coffee, sit and talk about the future,’ Putin said. ‘We need to ensure that our teams prepare issues that are extremely important for both the United States and Russia, including – but not only – on the Ukrainian track, in order to reach solutions acceptable to both sides.’.
