Since the UK Open is known for its open draw style, where well-known players face off against up-and-coming talent, many players view qualifying for the tournament as an accomplishment in and of itself. The UK Open is a fan favourite because of this element of unpredictability.
This year marks the 23rd time the UK Open has been held. The tournament started in 2003 with a much smaller prize fund of £124,000, with the winner receiving £30,000. Since then, the event has grown significantly in both prize money and popularity, producing a number of memorable champions and unexpected winners.
