Commuters passing through a UK train station were left baffled after its name was changed for 24 hours. Travellers visiting Stockport Station in Manchester spotted workmen swapping the signs out on Monday morning. Passengers took to social media to question the bizarre change after they noticed the new signs said 'Scottport' instead.

One Twitter account, named Stop in Stockport, posted pictures of new signage and asked: "What is going on at Stockport station [?]". Someone else chimmed in and said: "Sooo any idea why Stockport train station has been changed to Scottport? Just saw workmen changing the signs from my seat.".

A third user posted a separate image with the caption, "What's going on?" After numerous guesses, it was revealed that the station has been named to celebrate DJ Scott Mills taking over the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show. "Today it’s dedicated to our Lord and saviour," someone joked.

The signage and information screens at the station in the Greater Manchester town have all changed just for the day as the DJ started his new role on Monday morning. A station spokeswoman told Mills on air: "The team have been working so hard right the way through the night to change Stockport to Scottport.

"All the information screens have been changed. All the signage has been changed from Stockport to Scottport… A whole new town, a whole new name, just to welcome Scott Mills." Mills, who said he used to live "quite near" Stockport, described the changes as "bonkers" and "like a fever dream" as he thanked the station team.
