This year, February 26 is just another Wednesday to most people but there’s a growing trend on TikTok putting special emphasis on the day. A fresh flurry of videos is referring to the date as 'Slime Your Homeboy' day. Don’t worry, there’s no sticky goop coming your way; slime in this sense refers to betraying or messing with someone.

More and more TikTokers are promising to ‘slime’ someone on February 26, although no one is being very explicit on what exactly that entails. Warnings are flying to keep your eyes peeled from 11:59pm on February 25, as you never know when a sliming might be coming your way.

The origins of the day, like a lot of TikTok trends, are hard to track. If we go back to February 17, TikToker @notfromadonis posted a video of him and a friend walking through a car park. Accompanied by creepy music, he tells the camera: "On February 26th slime ya hb.".

The video garnered over a million views and 900,000 likes in just four days, with various follow-ups from other creators also promising to ‘slime’ their friends. He followed it up with another video, doubling down on the day, despite some people thinking it was just a joke.

Other videos have offered people advice about how to get through the day, like the one below from creator Cwackz. Ultimately, it feels like it’s simply a collective joke among TikTok users and nothing is really going to happen on February 26. Perhaps some people will engage in some pranks, but there’s certainly no evidence it’s about to become a national holiday.
