10 beauty editor-approved hand creams for dry skin

You know it’s winter when everyone starts carrying around hand cream (along with a pair of gloves and pocket tissues). Throughout the colder months, I probably cry out the phrase ‘my hands feel so dry!’ about once an hour, so I make sure to have three balms on rotation – one on my desk, one in my bag, and one on my bedside table.
After all, I have an extensive skincare routine in place for my face, neck, décolleté and body, so why shouldn’t my hands get the same TLC?. Our hands are one of our most-used body parts (just think about everything that you do on a daily basis; touching handrails on public transport, scrolling on our phones, typing on our keyboards), yet they’re rarely covered.
This direct exposure to external irritants such as cold weather, frequent hand washing, pollution and dirt can weaken the skin’s natural barrier and cause the skin on our hands to dry out, resulting in dry skin patches forming on our hands. Our hands are one of our most-used body parts.
To treat dry or even cracked skin, it’s important to apply a high-quality hand cream after every wash (this will keep your skin barrier adequately protected and hydrated). Doing this regularly will also improve elasticity and skin tone while reducing premature ageing signs.
If your hands are really suffering, YOU’s beauty expert Rosie Green suggests wearing moisturising gloves overnight as they will ‘supercharge the effects of your hand cream.’ Her favourite pair is from Margaret Dabbs London, but you can easily find them in Boots or Superdrug too.
