A two-part documentary airing on Channel 4 revisits the chilling case of serial killer who dropped clues about his crimes in Amazon product reviews. Property agent Todd Kohlhepp was arrested in 2016 after a woman named Kala Brown - an employee of his - was found chained up in a shipping container at his South Carolina home following a tip-off. She had been there for two months and claimed her boyfriend, Charles Carver, had been killed in front of her.
His body was discovered at Kohlhepp's home, as well as the remains of a married couple who had been buried at the same location for a year. In 2017, Kohlhepp pleaded guilty to seven murders carried out over the course of 13 years, including four that occurred in 2003 at a motorbike shop and the married couple at his property in 2015.
One of the most shocking parts of the case was that he left a trail of 140 Amazon reviews detailing terrifying uses for items such as padlocks and chainsaws between 2014 and 2016. One review of a 20-inch chainsaw read: "Works excellent. Getting the neighbor to stand still while you chase him with it is hard enough without having a easy to use chainsaw [sic]." Meanwhile, another review of a padlock in September 2014 read: "Solid locks. Have five of them on a shipping container. Won't stop them... but sure will slow them down til they are too old to care.".
